- discuss different contradictory definitions or types of democracy
- choose the one we like most
- discuss characteristics of an ideal democracy
- distinguish democracy from similar forms of government
- give a brief overview of the history of democracy
- argue the case for universal democracy
- point to some arguments against democracy
